The length of the river is 270 km. The catchment area is 5450 km². It flows through the territory of the Tigil region of the Kamchatka Territory [4] . It falls into the Sea of ​​Okhotsk .

The modern name of the river appeared on the map of I. B. Evreinov in 1722. Prior to this, in the reports of the Cossacks was mentioned as Nana, Nanok, Nanyk, Annanok. The Itelmenian name is Anauan-kih (Anauan) [5] .

In 1994, the river was included in the list of wetlands of international importance subject to the Ramsar Convention [6] .
