Biography
Erwin Gretz was born on April 18, 1890 in Hamburg. Despite his young age, already during the First World War he received the rank of lieutenant. [2]
In 1932 he was editor in chief of the official periodical of the city of Oberhausen , then was a correspondent for the Tägliche Rundschau in Berlin. In 1928, he met Harro Schulze-Boisen in Duisburg , and in 1935 joined the organization, which became known as the Red Chapel. Since 1934 he lived in Berlin-Lichtenrad .
On October 9, 1942, the Gestapo was arrested. The Imperial Military Tribunal found him guilty of “divulging military secrets” and sentenced him to death. On February 10, 1943, the sentence was carried out in the Pletsensee prison in Berlin. [3] [4]

A memorial stone has been erected at the last residence of Erwin Gretz in Berlin on Ulandstrasse 41a. [four]
