Biography
He graduated from the soil department of the Faculty of Biology and Soil of Moscow State University in 1954 , in 1958 he graduated from graduate school at the Altai Agricultural Institute, defended his dissertation at the Soil Institute. VV Dokuchaev on the topic "Water-physical properties and elements of the water regime of soils of the Altai Territory" ( 1960 ). In 1958 - 1969 he worked in the laboratory of forest soil science of the Forest Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
In 1963, together with N.V. Dylis and A.I. Utkin, Karpachevsky organized the Malinsky hospital on the border of the Podolsky and Naro-Fominsky districts of the Moscow Region , where comprehensive studies of forest biogeocenoses are unfolding.
Since 1969, Lev Oskarovich worked at the Department of Physics and Land Reclamation, in 1972 he defended his doctoral dissertation "The variegation of the soil cover of forest biogeocenoses . " The main direction in scientific work is forest soil science , the genesis of forest soils, their physical properties. He conducted environmental studies in Moscow and the Moscow region.
He prepared more than 50 candidates of science . Laureate of the State Prize ( 2003 ), Prize named after V.R. Williams ( 1982 ), Prizes of the Knowledge Society for the Popularization of Science ( 1983 ).
Author of over 250 articles and 15 monographs. From scientific publications, it should be noted “Dynamics of soil properties” ( 1997 ), “Matrix organization of soils” ( 2001 , et al.)
He wrote poetry, several collections were published. In the book "Soil Apocrypha" Karpachevsky collected semi-anecdotal stories that happened with famous soil scientists of the past. In 2007, he published an autobiography of "Notes of a soil scientist . " The head of the department , E.V. Shein, described him as an "encyclopedist."
He died on October 26, 2012.
