Biography
Kostas Skandalidis was born in 1953 on the island of Kos. He studied electrical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens .
First elected to the Greek Parliament on the PASOK party list in the 1989 general election. He was elected secretary of the PASOK Central Committee three times between October 11, 1995 and October 22, 2001 . He was a candidate for mayor of Athens in the 2006 local elections, which received 28.84% of the electorate, after which his platform became the main opposition force.
After the 2007 parliamentary elections, in which PASOK was defeated, Kostas Skandalidis put forward his candidacy as party leader. In the general party elections held on November 11, 2007 , he took third place with 5.74% of the vote, losing to the current party leader, Jorgos Papandreou and Evangelos Venizelos [1] .
Kostas Skandalidis from the mid -1990s held the following government posts:
- Minister of the Aegean Sea and Island Policy (October 13, 1993 - July 8, 1994)
- Minister of the Interior (July 8, 1994 - September 15, 1995)
- Minister of the Interior and Public Order (October 24, 2001 - March 10, 2004)
After PASOK came to power in 2009, he was appointed in September 2010 as Minister of Rural Development and Food.
