Ai Shite Knight ( Japanese 愛 し て ナ イ ト Aishite Naito , lit. “Love me, [my] knight”) is a manga created by Kaoru Tada in the early 80's. Based on the plot of the manga by the animation studio Toei Animation , an anime series was released in 1983. A total of 42 series were created. The famous designer Shingo Araki , also known for other works, such as Cutey Honey , Majokko Megu-chan and Saint Seiya, worked on some of the series. In Germany, it was titled Rock'n'roll kids, in France Kiss me Licia, in Italy and Spain Bésame Licia.

Story
Unlike most of the anime of its time and its genre, Ai Shite Knight is dedicated not to witch girls , but to a more realistic story. [one]
The main character, 18-year-old Aeko “Yakko” Mitamura, lives in Osaka and works in the okonomiyaki restaurant with her father. One day she meets a little boy Hashizo with a cat Julian. The boy lost his parents in childhood and he is raised by an older brother. Hashizo Go Kato's brother is the lead singer of the new rock band Bee Hive. When Guo and Aeko meet, a long and tangled romance begins between them.
The Be Hive group is based on bands of the then years, including 44 Magnum and The Stalin.
Characters
Aeko “Yakko” Mitamura ( Japanese: 三 田村 八 重 子 Mitamuro Aeko ) is the main character and works in the okonomiyaki restaurant with her father. Attends evening classes at the university. Yakko is a very romantic and timid girl. One of the regular visitors to the restaurant, the long-haired handsome Satomi Okawa pays much attention to the girl. One day, Yakko meets Guo and his younger brother Hashizo, who change her life forever. It later turns out that Guo and Satomi are friends and members of the same rock band. The girl has to make a difficult choice between them.

Guo Kato ( Jap. 加藤 剛 Kato Guo ) is the protagonist, as well as the lead singer of the rock band Bee Hive. Studying at the same university as Aeko. Lives in a small apartment with his younger brother Hashizo. He hopes to become a professional and successful musician in the future. Has the image of a confident, charming playboy. Despite this, he falls in love with Yakko.

Hashijo Kato ( 加藤 橋 蔵 Kato Hashizo ) is Guo's younger brother. His real name was Hideki, but was renamed his older brother after the death of his parents. In fact, Hashizo’s half-brother, because Guo’s father had long since died in a car accident. After the death of his parents, Guo, as a teenager, assumed the responsibility of caring for his newborn brother. Due to the fact that the older brother is always busy and trains in music, Hashizo often plays alone with his cat. After Yakko meets, she becomes very attached to her.

Satomi Okawa ( Japanese: 大川 里 美 Okawa Satomi ) is a member of the rock band Bee Hive, playing on a keyboard. Also Guo's best friend. He is from a wealthy family, an incredibly talented musician. Unlike Guo, he’s calm. Studying at the same university as Guo, in his spare time gives private piano lessons. Even before the main events, he was in love with Yakko, but when he finds out that Guo and Yakko are dating, he leaves the group temporarily.

Shigemaro Mitamura ( 三 田村 し げ ま ろ Mitamura Shigemaro ) - father of Yakko, keeps his restaurant. He loves his daughter very much. But, despite this, it is very conservative, for example, it was categorically against the relationship of Yakko and rock musicians. A big fan of Enki .

Criticism
In many ways, Ai Shite Knight stands out for its music. For musical groups in the anime, not fragments of compositions were written, but full-fledged pseudo-hits [1] . According to the reviewer of AnimePlanet , the initial composition can easily be “attached”, and the final one is not worth re-listening [2] .
Anime News Network reviewer Mike Tool also notes high-quality animation and a delightful color palette in anime [1] . At the same time, the AnimePlanet reviewer , although he recognizes the purity of the color, still calls the animation an outdated and primitive order [2] .
Continuations
Due to the popularity of the anime in Italy, a series with four seasons was shot: Love me Licia , Licia dolce Licia , Teneramente Licia and Balliamo e cantiamo con Licia [3] in the genre of teen soap opera.
