Biography
He was born in the family of a jeweler of Jewish origin Moritz Diamant, who in 1892 changed his surname and the surname of his children. In 1898 he graduated from the Vienna Conservatory in the class of violin Jacob Grün . After three years of military service in 1901 - 1908 . was the accompanist of the Lviv Opera , then in 1908 - 1919 . accompanist of the Baden Court Theater in Karlsruhe and finally in 1919 - 1930 accompanist of the Berlin State Capella . Since 1914 , he also played in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival . In the 1920s He directed a string quartet with Emil Kornzand (second violin), Karl Reitz (viola) and Karl Dehert (cello), and also performed as a member of the piano trio with Dehert and pianists Otto Urak or Georg Bertram . In 1923 he took part in the first German radio concert, performing fragments from the works of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky [1] . In 1921 - 1930 made a number of recordings as a soloist and ensemble. He also taught, becoming, in particular, one of the first mentors of Ricardo Odnozozoff .
After the Nazis came to power, Deman returned to Austria in 1933 , and fled to Switzerland after the Anschluss . Once again settled in Germany in 1946 .
The first marriage was married to actress Edith Delkamp (1886-1960), their son Hans Eduard Deman made a diplomatic career, rising to the post of first secretary of the German Embassy in Pakistan. He married his second marriage in 1946 to the singer Frida Leider .
