Chantico in the Codex Rios
Chantico ( Spanish: Chantico, Chantico-Cuauhxólotl ) - “He who lives in the house”; in Aztec mythology, the goddess of fire of a hearth and fire of volcanoes . She was also responsible for the ripening of corn cobs. Wife of the fire god Shiutekutli .
When she broke the ban on eating chili peppers during fasting and ate fried fish with paprika, Tonacatecutli turned her into a dog .
Depicted with a black and red face; its symbols were thorns of a cactus and a red snake. Her holiday was held on top of the sacred hill Tepeyak March 23 (1 day of the month Xochitl)
