Title

The word "tashmaydan" in Turkish means a quarry, a stone field ( taş - stone, meydan - field), and therefore the whole area, with a quarry, was called Tashmaydan. [one]

History

Russian Church of the Holy Trinity

In prehistoric times, this place was part of the southern coast of the Pannonian Sea . The ancient Romans mined stone, and during the reign of the Ottoman Empire , the exploitation of mines where saltpeter was mined continued . In 1828, the old cemetery was moved to this place and was located on it until 1886. During the Second World War, thanks to the existing voids, the Germans arranged underground shelters and warehouses, which are still not sufficiently explored. With the introduction of the General Urban Plan of 1950, Tashmaydan became a city park, in the lower part of which there is a sports and entertainment center of the same name. During the work, the fountains were removed and replaced with a green zone, which today represents the main motive of the park. In 2010, work began on the reconstruction of the park due to financial support from Azerbaijan . In 2011, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the park was opened. At that time, monuments to the former president of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev and the famous writer Milorad Pavich, were unveiled in the park. [2] [1] [3] [4]
