The twin brothers Allen ( Allen Hughes ) and Albert ( Albert Hughes ) Hughes were born April 1, 1972 in Detroit ( Michigan , USA ) in the family of an African American and an American of Armenian descent, whose ancestors came from Iran . After 2 years, the parents divorced, and the brothers left to live with their mother.
In 1981, they moved to Pomona ( California ). There Allen and Albert were seriously interested in cinema , and their mother gave them a video camera for their 12th birthday. Since then, the Hughes brothers spent all their time filming short films. Once they even presented one of their works - the short film "How to Become a Thief" - as homework at the school where they studied.
The first serious collaboration between the Hughes brothers is the feature film The Threat to Society , filmed in 1993 . In it, Allen and Albert acted not only as directors, but also as assistant scriptwriters. The tape was presented at the Cannes Film Festival .
The brothers ’next film, Dead Presidents , was filmed in 1995 and described veterans of the Vietnam War . And in 1999, at the Sundance Film Festival, the premiere of their joint full-length documentary project American Pimp, which tells about the life of prostitutes and female slavery in the United States, took place.
Another director's masterpiece the Hughes brothers - the thriller " From Hell " - was released in 2001 . The film was a dark adaptation of the novel by Alan Moore , which tells of the bloody adventures of Jack the Ripper in Victorian England . The movie stars such "stars" of the cinema as Johnny Depp and Heather Graham .
