Biography
Vasily Porik was born in the village of Solomirka, Litinsky district, Podolsk province (now the village of Porik, Khmelnitsky district, Vinnitsa region of Ukraine ) into a peasant family. Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1941 .
In the Red Army since 1939 . In 1941 he graduated from the Kharkov Infantry School. On the fronts of World War II, he fought as part of the 6th Army of the South-Western Front. In July 1941 he was surrounded by Uman , fought to the last bullet. He was wounded, captured.
In the summer of 1942 he was sent to the Beaumont concentration camp in the province of Artois of the department of Pas de Calais (France). In captivity, Vasily Porik participated in organizing an underground committee of prisoners of war. Established a connection with the French Resistance . Managed to escape from the concentration camp. After the escape, he created a partisan detachment that fought against the invaders in northern France. In one of the battles, he was wounded, captured and put in prison by Saint-Nicaise.
He managed to escape, and he again led the squad. In early April 1944, a detachment of Vasily Porik blew up 2 enemy echelons, destroyed more than 200 Nazis, defeated the guards of the Beaumont concentration camp, and freed all prisoners.
On June 25, 1944, Vasily Porik joined the headquarters of the military and political leadership of Soviet partisans in northern France, created that day by Mark Slobodinsky , [1] [2] .
July 22, 1944 near the city of Arras, the detachment was ambushed. Vasily Porik was captured and shot the same day. He was buried in the cemetery of the commune of Henin-Beaumont .
The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on July 21, 1964 .

Memory
- The name of the Hero is carved on the wall of the Arras Fortress.
- A monument to the work of A.F. Ignashchenko was erected in Henin-Beaumont .
- In Kiev , Vinnitsa and Khmilnyk streets are named after the Hero.
- In the sixties, the French writer Andre Pierrard (see fr: André Pierrard ) wrote about Porik, the novel "The Young Man with a Rose" ( FR. "Le jeune homme à la rose" ).
- In 1970, the film “ Prisoners of Beaumont ” (directed by Yuri Lysenko) was shot at the Dovzhenko film studio based on the biography of Vasily Porik. Starring Mikhail Golubovich .
- In May 2015, by May 9, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance issued 10 posters with photographs and a brief annotation dedicated to the Ukrainians who fought in the Allied armies during the Second World War. Among them was Vasily Porik [3] .
- The tanker of the Novorossiysk Shipping Company was named after Vasily Porik and was in operation during the period 1966-1988 [4] [5] .
- In the city of Kiev, one of the streets in the Podolsky district is named after the Hero.
