Biography
Born August 25, 1873. He received his primary education at the Tambov Theological Seminary and on September 16, 1871 was admitted to the Kazan Infantry Cadet School .
Released on September 1, 1894 as a second lieutenant in the 1st East Siberian Line Battalion (since 1900 - the 17th East Siberian Rifle Regiment) and on September 1, 1898 was promoted to lieutenant .
In the ranks of the 17th East Siberian Rifle Regiment, Popov took part in the campaign against boxers and was awarded the Order of St. for military distinctions . 3rd degree Anna with swords and bow. September 1, 1902 received the rank of headquarters captain .
In 1904-1905, Popov fought with the Japanese and received several military awards and in 1906 he was promoted to captain with seniority for military distinctions on May 5, 1905 [1] .
Until the start of World War I, Popov continued to serve in the 17th East Siberian Regiment, including after the reorganization of this regiment into the 17th Siberian Rifle Regiment ; August 26, 1912 promoted to lieutenant colonel . In the ranks of his regiment, he spoke to the front against the Germans. Killed in battle on October 2, 1914.
By the highest order of March 11, 1915, Popov was posthumously awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree
| For the fact that September 27 1914, a courageous attack entrusted to him by the battalion on the flank of the enemy, pushing the superior forces of the Stavuchansky Infantry Regiment, forced him to a hasty retreat, which made it possible for the regiment to maintain an important tactical position. In the battle of Rokitno, he rushed at the head of a battalion with a rifle to attack the enemy, personally stabbed several Germans and died a heroic death. |
