Creation History
The music for the film Sweeney Todd, a demon barber from Fleet Street was taken from the musical of the same name , on the basis of which the film was made. Tim Burton, the director, decided to remove or significantly shorten a larger number of compositions of the original musical, in particular, the overture of The Ballad of Sweeney Todd . In an interview, Stephen Sondheim, author of texts and music, said: “Yes, there are a lot of changes, additions and deletions ... But if you just reconcile with them, then you will spend time excitingly” [2] .
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was released on December 18, 2007 . AO Scott in The New York Times rated Johnny Depp's voice “sharp and subtle, but surprisingly realistic” [3] . Another critic in the New York Times wrote that “Depp’s rumor is obviously excellent because its pitch is dead”. [4]
