XigmaNAS is a free operating system for network storage ( Eng. Network-Attached Storage ) [3] . It is a direct continuation of the NAS4free [4] [5] project. March 22, 2012 was released under the name NAS4Free, and in July 2018 it was renamed XigmaNAS and registered on September 11, 2018 [6] . XigmaNAS is based on the latest versions of the FreeBSD operating system [7] [8] , the first version was released on March 22, 2012 [9] [10] . It supports the exchange between Windows , Apple and UNIX-like systems. It includes ZFS version v5000, software RAID (0,1,5), disk encryption, SMART , email messages, etc. The following protocols are also supported: CIFS ( Samba ), FTP , NFS , TFTP , AFP , RSYNC , Unison , ISCSI , UPnP , BitTorrent - all these protocols are fully configurable via the WEB interface , which does not exclude working with the command line via the SSH client.

XigmaNAS can be installed on a Compact Flash / USB / SSD hard drive or loaded from a LiveCD .
All NAS configuration settings are saved in one xml file. If necessary, it is simple to restore the system: install XigmaNAS on the disk, load the configuration file - XigmaNAS is functioning again.
