The Eurovision Song Contest 1976 became the 21st Eurovision Song Contest . It was held on April 3, 1976 in the city of The Hague ( Netherlands ), in the building of the Palace of Congresses. Sweden, Malta and Turkey refused to participate, but Austria and Greece returned, resulting in 18 countries. Liechtenstein was again not allowed to participate in the competition. Many non-English speaking countries, such as Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland, decided to perform their songs in English.

The UK won the Grand Prix with the song “Save your kisses for me”, performed by Brotherhood of Man, which became a commercially successful hit and sold over 6 million copies worldwide. The famous Italian duo Al Bano and Romina Power took 7th place.
