It was founded in 1951 in Moscow . Over its more than half a century of history, the orchestra has toured in 50 countries, made more than 300 records.
Since 1998, the artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra is Yuri Simonov , People's Artist of the USSR.

Created in September 1951 by the merger of the Small Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Committee Opera Orchestra.
In 1953 as part of the Moscow Philharmonic . Since 1973 - academic.
