Content
AppearanceBody length 26 cm. The color of the plumage is green, the lower part of the body with a yellowish tinge. Crown of blue-green color, forehead in red and orange tones. The upper chest and throat are brown. The iris is orange-red. The color of males and females is the same, in females the beak is thinner and males are slightly larger than females.
DistributionThey live in Brazil , Peru , Suriname , eastern Bolivia , northern Paraguay and northwest Argentina .
LifestyleIt is inhabited by the edges of subtropical and tropical moist forests , dry savannas , parks and gardens . Live in pairs and small flocks from 4 to 8 birds. Sometimes the cluster reaches from 20 to 30 birds. During the flight, a piercing screech.
ReproductionThe female lays 2–5 white eggs and incubates them for 21–26 days. Some males go to nesting sites during incubation of masonry, but do not take part in incubation. Chicks leave the nest at the age of 50 days. They remind parents of coloration, but the orange strip on the crown is already lighter, the blue color on the back of the head is paler, the beak is lighter and the iris is gray.
ContentsIt was first brought to Europe in 1869 . At present, this is the most common among lovers of this genus species, suitable for captivity. Not the least importance is the ability of these parrots to reproduce different sounds: whistle, squeak, cough and human speech.
