AppearanceBody length 35-38 cm, tail about 16 cm. The color of the plumage is golden yellow. Around the eyes there is an unsupported white area. The feathers and plumage of the middle elytra are dark green. The tail is yellow. The beak is powerful, large and bright.
DistributionIt lives in the northeast of Brazil , the area is limited to individual sections in the interfluve of the lower Tapajos and Tokantins rivers.
LifestyleIn nature, live in pairs or small flocks with the exception of the breeding season. They inhabit forests closer to the water. They prefer tree tops, quickly flying from one tree to another. Noisy birds whose piercing cry can be heard from afar.
ReproductionNest in tree hollows. In clutch 3-5 eggs . Hatching lasts about 22 days, but the chicks leave the nest only after 6-7 weeks.
Threats and securityThe attractive color and unpretentiousness of these parrots to the conditions in captivity led to their mass capture, but the destruction of the indigenous habitats caused more harm to the population. By the middle of the 20th century, these parrots became rare in nature. Currently refers to endangered species. Formally, it is under guard in Brazil.
