Biography

Barry Harris was born in Detroit ( Michigan ) on December 15 , 1929 .

The musical talent of B. Hariss became apparent already at the age of four (at that age he studied with his mother, a church organist). Since 1944, has shown the strongest interest in jazz. At 17, B. Haris performs in an amateur jazz show. After a while, he won a prize in amateur shows at the Paradise Theater.

In 1954-55, he plays in Detroit with Miles Davis , Sonny Stitte, and Max Roach .

From 1958 he began teaching music; developed a technique for mastering jazz piano. In the 80s he led the Jazz Cultural Center (it consisted of a club and training classes). One of Barry Harris’s students is Vahagn Hayrapetyan, a jazzman.
