Christ, Petros

Petros Christ was born in 1887 in the village of Velushina Pelagonia .

He became a teacher of Greek in the village of Gradenitsa. He left teaching and joined the struggle for Macedonia, joining the detachment of G. Volanis, where he distinguished himself.

In May 1906 he created his own detachment, which acted in the Morihovo area on two fronts - against the Bulgarian Chetniks and against the Ottoman troops, in many cases in cooperation with the Ioannidis detachment. ^[1] Later he collaborated with a detachment of G. Vardas in the Morihovo area and in the areas around Florina and Prespa . ^[2]

At the end of May 1907 , after the departure of the detachment of G. Vardas, Christ took control of the entire Florin-Prespa-Morihovo region, based on Mount Varnuntas . ^[3] Later on, Christ moved southward, where he collaborated with the detachments of I.Karavitis, P.Nikolaidis, Sklidis and P.Geroyannis. ^[4] In April 1907, Christ, along with the detachments of Nikolaidis, Vardas and Karavitis, attacked the Bulgarian Chetniks in Ano Kalliniki Florina, which caused an influx of young people into the Macedonian detachments.

At the end of 1907 Christ took upon himself the defense of the village of Proti and Kladorakhi nome Florin. ^[5] In May 1908 , after a battle with the Ottoman troops southwest of the city of Monastir , Christ with a detachment retreated to Bukovo, where he was captured.

Christ was hanged on June 25, 1908 in Monastir , for the murder of the commander of the Turkish garrison in Nympheo (Neveska) Florina.

The bust of Macedonian Petros Christu was installed on the main street of the city of Florin in 1960. ^[6]
