Biography
Stanislav Vostokov was born in 1975 in Tashkent . After graduating from school, he entered the Art College. Benkova . After graduation, he worked at the Tashkent Zoo , then took part in a conservation project in Cambodia .
In 1995, he studied in England, at courses for specialists in the conservation of rare species of animals, worked on the island of Jersey , at the International Training Center for Nature Conservation. During his work, he kept diary entries, subsequently revised into the book “An Island Dressed in Jersey” (2007). For projects in Cambodia - the construction of a rehabilitation center for gibbons rescued from poachers , and the distribution of the "Map of Reserves and Rare Animals" - received grants from the Gerald Darrell Foundation twice.
In addition, Vostokov worked at the All-Russian Research Institute for Nature Protection and the Moscow Zoo . Later this experience formed the basis of his book, which he himself illustrated, “Moscow Zoo. Stories of a minister ”(2004), later reprinted under the title“ Do Not Feed or Tease! ”(2010). And in 2011, this book was included in the annual catalog of the best books for children and adolescents, created by writers from 40 countries, - "White Crows" of the International Youth Library in Munich.
As a writer Stanislav Vostokov declared himself in 1998, when his poems began to appear in print. He collaborated in the magazines Murzilka , Prostokvashino , Kukumber , Vovochka , Kolobok and Two Giraffes , Young Naturalist , the newspapers Pionerskaya Pravda and Zhili-Byli , the creative association Black Chicken .
Since 2001, the literary compiler of the magazine for teens " Pampas " of the publishing house " Funny Pictures ". A year later, the magazine was closed, and Vostokov began to compile and edit popular science encyclopedias for children in the creative association "Black Chicken" under the Rolan Bykov Foundation .
According to the results of the All-Russian project-contest “Book of the Year: Children Choose” (the Russian version of the world’s Children`s Choices Prize - “Children's Choice”), S. Vostokov’s book “The Wind Make Trees” was included in the top ten published in 2012.
The International Council on Books for Young People (IBBY) of UNESCO awarded Stanislav Vostokov the Honorary (Anderson) Diploma of IBBY-2014 (Bologna, 03.24.14) for the book “The Winter Door”, which continues the tradition of Russian children’s rustic prose, and the creation of bright, optimistic works.
His books are among the top ten according to leading publishers of children's literature (March, 2014 and 2015).
Stanislav Vostokov travels a lot around the country, participates in literary events, meets with young readers in schools and orphanages, in clubs and libraries, he was invited to meet with children of Germany, Finland and Cuba.
S. V. Vostokov’s autobiography and a series of articles devoted to various aspects of his work are published in the quarterly almanac “Herald of children's literature” (issue 9, 2015, p. 5-34).
