Ivan Petrovich Vakurov ( January 21 ( February 2 ) 1885 , Palekh - April 20, 1968 ) - Russian and Soviet artist, icon painter, restorer, one of the founders of the art school of the Palekh miniature , Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1935) , People's Artist of the RSFSR (1956).

Biography

He was born in 1885 in the ancient Russian village of Palekh in the family of indigenous paleleshan, hereditary icon painters of the Vakurovs. In the years 1893-1899. He studied in the workshop of N. M. Sofonov, where his father, P. V. Vakurov, was an “old-fashioned master”. His teachers considered famous Palekh artists I. M. Bakanov and A. A. Dydykin (although he did not study directly with them). In 1899-1915 worked in the workshop of N. M. Safonov. Restored icons in Hagia Sophia in Novgorod the Great and frescoes in the Mirozhsky Monastery in Pskov . In 1915, from the workshop of M. P. Parilov painted the church of the Valdai Iversky Monastery . At the end of the work, he moved to the workshop of A. D. Salautin, where he painted large icons for the iconostasis of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tsaritsyno. In 1919-1922 He worked in the restoration workshop specialist in ancient Russian art of the artist A. Ya. Vashurov in Moscow. Then he did not long serve as a copyer at the construction of a railway in the Perm province , and in his spare time he made up artists in a local club. In 1923, he again came to Moscow and continued to work in the workshop of A. Ya. Vashurov, but then moved to the workshop of A. A. Glazunov, where he began to paint papier-mâché products. In 1924 he returned to Palekh, where the miniaturist works alone. He took part in the Paris World Exhibition in 1925 , and his work received a gold and bronze medals, as well as an honorary diploma. In December 1925, joined the "Artel of ancient painting." In 1934, he was one of the initiators of the reorganization of the vocational school at the Palekh Art School. Member of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR since 1934. He was a teacher at the Palekh Art School since 1955 .

Died April 20, 1968, buried in Palekh.

On December 5, 1924, seven Palekh artists I. I. Golikov , I. V. Markichev, I. M. Bakanov, I. I. Zubkov, A. I. Zubkov, A. V. Kotukhin, V. V. Kotukhin united in "Artel of ancient painting." They were soon joined by other Palekh artists, including I. P. Vakurov, D. N. Butorin , N. M. Zinoviev . Already in 1925, Palekh miniatures were successfully exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris .

Creative heritage

It is considered one of the founders of the art of Palekh lacquer miniatures. The artistic style of I. P. Vakurov has distinct individual features. Developing the icon-painting tradition, he introduced a lot of fundamentally new things in the miniature. In general, his work highlights the high skill. Constantly working on the image, he opened up the colors and completed the letter with the finest fuses. He worked in monumental painting: the chess room of the Palace of Pioneers in Ivanovo (1938), the pavilion of the central regions of the All-Union Agricultural Union (1939); painted porcelain, created drawings for fabrics (1920-1930); engaged in theatrical-decorative art: design of the play "The Snow Maiden" MHAT (1936); the design of the books: The Song of the Petrel by A. M. Gorky (1936), The Tale of the Golden Cockerel by A. S. Pushkin, - in 1937 to the centenary of the death of A. S. Pushkin , the publishing house ACADEMIA saw the light of the gift edition “ Tales of the Golden Cockerel ” with illustrations by I. P. Vakurov [1] . The themes of his works were different: folklore, literature, history, battles, triples, genre scenes, hunting, Soviet life. Works created by I.P. Vakurov are kept in many museums, including: GMPI, the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the VMDPINI, the MNI, the ZGIKHMZ, TsMVS, KMRI, GMENR, the TsMR, the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, the All-Russian Museum of A.S. Pushkin ( St. Petersburg), the Museum of Pushkin House, as well as in private collections in Russia and foreign countries [2] .
