Biography

Yevgeny G. Gabov was born on October 26, 1922 in a peasant family in the village of Klyuchi, Kamensky Uyezd, Novonikolaevskaya Province of the RSFSR (now the village of Kamensky District, Altai Territory of the Russian Federation ). Russian In 1928, the Gabov family moved to Novosibirsk . Here, Evgeny Gabov graduated from seven classes at school number 79 [2] , then the school of FZU at the Sibkombayn factory (currently the A. I. Pokryshkin Novosibirsk Technical College ). Before the war, Evgeny Grigorievich worked as a turner at the Sibselmash plant.

In the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, E. G. Gabov was called up by the Kaganovichi District Military Commissariat in Novosibirsk in September 1941. In battles with the Nazi invaders, Yevgeny Grigoryevich participated in January 1942 on the Karelian Front . In April 1942 he was wounded, but quickly returned to duty. Since June 1942, Evgeny G. on the Stalingrad Front . Member of the defensive phase of the Battle of Stalingrad . September 18, 1942 E. G. Gabov was seriously wounded near Stalingrad . After the hospital, he was sent to accelerated courses of the artillery school. Again at the front, junior lieutenant E.G. Gabov from December 1943. He took part in the Vitebsk offensive operation . In May 1944 he was enlisted in the 45th separate fighter anti-tank artillery brigade of the reserve of the High Command of the 1st Baltic Front and was appointed commander of the fire platoon of the 3rd battery of the 1972th fighter anti-tank artillery regiment. Before the start of Operation Bagration, the brigade became part of the 6th Guards Army . During the Vitebsk-Orshansk operation , an integral part of the Belarusian strategic operation , a platoon of junior lieutenant E.V. Gabov in the battle for the village of Khodorovka under heavy artillery and mortar fire of the enemy destroyed 6 firing points and up to 45 soldiers and officers of the Wehrmacht , which contributed to the capture of infantry units this settlement. For this battle, the younger lieutenant E.G. Gabov was awarded his first order - the Order of the Red Star .

On July 5, 1944, the Šiauliai operation began. Parts of the 51st Army, which included the 45th IPTABR, liberated the cities of Panevezys and Šiauliai . As a result of the operation, the Red Army troops reached the coast of the Gulf of Riga, cutting off the German Army Group North . In order to release the encircled group on August 16, 1944, the German command launched a powerful counterattack in the Baltic states . The positions of the 51st army near Šiauliai were attacked by the forces of three infantry and seven tank divisions of the Wehrmacht. On August 18, 1944, a platoon of junior lieutenant E.G. Gabov was attacked by superior enemy forces, which were supported by 40 tanks. During a two-day battle, Gabov's platoon repelled several enemy attacks, during which the Germans lost 13 tanks, 3 vehicles, 2 artillery pieces, 7 machine guns and up to 300 soldiers and officers. Personally, Junior Lieutenant Gabov destroyed 5 tanks, 5 machine guns, 2 cars, and up to 100 Wehrmacht troops. Remembering these battles, the commander of the 77th Infantry Division, Major General A.P. Rodionov wrote:

“The 1972nd anti-tank fighter regiment of Lieutenant Colonel Gismatulin [3] showed patterns of heroism. Under his command, the calculations were beaten to the last, they died, but they did not leave their guns to the end (calculations of the gun commanders of sergeant Filippov, senior sergeant Borisov, sergeant Ivanov, sergeant Zaitsev). The enemy therefore did not achieve the intended goal. With the fire of 1972, the iptap burned and shot down 35 tanks, 3 self-propelled guns, 4 armored personnel carriers, 3 75 mm guns, 20 machine guns. Destroyed up to 300 enemy soldiers and officers ” [4] .

In total, the 45th separate fighter anti-tank artillery brigade of Colonel A.M. Teplinsky destroyed 51 tanks on August 17-18, 1944, of which 17 heavy, 11 armored personnel carriers, 3 self-propelled guns and up to 2 infantry battalions. For the difference in the battles near Siauliai, E. G. Gabov was introduced to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Soon he was awarded the next rank of lieutenant . The decree on conferring the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on the second lieutenant Yevgeny G. Gabov was signed on March 24, 1945.

In September 1944, Yevgeny Grigoryevich participated in the Riga operation , then in battles with the enemy’s encircled Courland group as part of the 6th Guards Army . In February 1945, the 45th separate fighter anti-tank artillery brigade was transferred to the 1st Belorussian Front , in which Yevgeny Grigoryevich participated in the defeat of the German army group Wisla , and then the Berlin operation . With the encirclement of the capital of the German Empire in Berlin, Lieutenant Gabov participated in the breakthrough of the German defense on the Oder-Havel Canal near Oranienburg , where, after crossing the water barrier, his platoon repelled four German counterattacks, destroying up to 20 Wehrmacht soldiers and 5 machine-gun points. The war for Yevgeny Grigoryevich ended on April 29, 1945 in the town of Rathenov , where he was wounded for the third time during street battles.

After the war, Eugene G. continued to serve in the army. After graduating from officer courses at the Siberian Military District , he served in one of the artillery units. In 1954, captain E.G. Gabov retired. He lived in the city of Novosibirsk. Having mastered the profession of crane operator, he worked in department No. 6 of the Stroymekhanizatsiya trust of the Glavnovosibirskstroy management. June 22, 2001 [5] Evgeny Grigoryevich died. He was buried at the Zaeltsovsky cemetery in Novosibirsk.
