The magazine "Architectural Herald" wrote about Andrei Gozak:
All his life he could not sit in one place - including warm. He left the design institute for an archaeological expedition, from there - to an architectural magazine, etc. He was overcome by a passion for changing places, for a break in gradualness, but not only - [Andrei Gozak] was always distinguished by his independence of judgment and behavior and, not tolerating state bureaucracy and officialdom , never missed the occasion of their carnival flipping [1] .
He died on April 17, 2012 .
Creativity
Architecture
Architect and designer of buildings in Moscow and the cities of the USSR.
The architectural creed of Andrei Gozak was space and light:
... The material and decor are secondary. Ladovsky said, space and mass are the beginnings of architecture, for me space and light. I love Alvar Aalto because he painted architecture with light. In general, I am a supporter of calm, simple, white buildings, in which the light state decides everything [4] .
He argued that architecture is born out of momentum.
... Only intuition and insight can be this impulse, not calculation, not mathematics, not rationo. The image is born in the fog, in the darkness, and this will always be a mystery [4] .
Painting
Engaged in painting since his youth. Initially, he was influenced by Paul Klee and painted geometric paintings. Then he developed his own style of translucent multilayer painting, in which the paper on the stretcher is primed with emulsion paint, and then, in a mixture with it, the artist writes “what is” - acrylic , watercolor , tempera . Work on one picture can take up to a month of time, since it requires a large number of subterfuges and valers.
Gozak himself spoke of his manner:
Glaze is superimposed layer upon layer until a special glow appears. For me, the glow of space and deep color is the main thing. Open color does not give this - Matisse , for example, is a great artist, but he has nowhere to go. My hero is, rather, Morandi . He wrote a frozen metaphysical life in which eternity exists. And the fact that he wrote bottles there - I do not see them, and for me there is no plot - there is only a special condition [4] .
Teaching
He taught at the A. Lunacharsky State Institute of Theatrical Art (GITIS) the discipline "Design and the Technique of Project Implementation" [5] .
Membership in Creative and Public Organizations
- Full member of the Russian Academy of Art Criticism [6]
2000 Injury
In 2000, Andrei Gozak fell from a height of 7 meters, having received a complex fracture of the right ankle joint and a bruise of the left shoulder. Plaster was applied to the ankle joint, a shoulder bruise was left without special attention. After three months of shoulder pain and an acute respiratory viral infection , suppurative arthritis developed. An operation, drainage , and a four-week intravenous drip treatment were performed on the shoulder, but no improvement occurred, and the arm hung. An x-ray showed destruction of the humeral head . Gozak joined the line for shoulder joint prosthetics in Helsinki (the cost of the operation was to be 8-12 thousand dollars).
Due to severe pain in the shoulder, Andrei Gozak was referred by surgeon N.V. Zagorodni before prosthetics for rehabilitation to Peter Alexandrovich Popov, who began to relieve pain by affecting the points, but the main treatment was gymnastics according to the Popov method. Practicing for half an hour 3 times a day, Gozak achieved a gradual positive result, and the prosthetics operation was canceled.
In 2005, Andrei Gozak suffered a repeated shoulder injury, but, using the same gymnastics, he quickly recovered.
On the treatment of Andrei Gozak, the program “Joint prosthetics, can it be avoided?” Was broadcast on a specialized television channel [7] .
