Kalinovich, Ivan Titovich

Ivan Titovich Kalinovich ( November 25, 1884 - November 12, 1927 ) - Ukrainian bibliographer , publisher and politician.

Biography

Born in Lviv in the family of an entrepreneur-builder. He graduated from teacher seminary in Zalishchyky (1904), studied at the University of Lviv . In 1908 he became acquainted with the activities of the “International Bibliographic Institute” (Mundaneum) in Brussels (Belgium), where he attended three-month bibliographic courses. In 1916-1917 and 1919-1922 he worked in Vienna, since 1922 - in Zolochev . He died in Lviv .

Publishing and Political Activities

He organized the World Library publishing house (1913-26), which produced educational publications and translated literature ( Ivan Franko was one of the translators of this publishing house). Since 1917 - member of the NTSH bibliographic commission (since 1922 - its secretary). In 1918-1919, he was the ambassador (deputy) of the Ukrainian National Rada of ZUNR and a deputy of the Labor Congress of Ukraine . He edited the newspaper "Drohobych Leaf" (1919). One of the leaders of the pro-Soviet party “ Selrob ” (actually a legal faction of the Communist Party of Western Ukraine ), editor of its print organ, “Our Word”.

He maintained relations with the Ukrainian Book Chamber and the Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Book Studies. Kalinovich’s manuscript heritage contains large file cabinets (more than 300 thousand units; not yet published) on the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian literature.
