About the album
The album was released five years after the release of a successful debut album, which allowed critics to include it among the “long-awaited” ones (the phrase “ album-that-almost-never-happened ” was used in a review of allmusic ) [1] . Before the release of the album, the absence of new recorded material from the LFO group more than once became the topic of discussion [2] . The album was produced by Mark Bell [1] . When asked why there was such a long time span between LFO albums, he replied:
| It's easy doing your first album as you have all the first part of your life to express. The second one is harder unless you're going to repeat yourself ... and repetition bores me a bit, it's a complete wasted opportunity to be creative. | It’s easy to work on the first album, you have the whole first half of your life for this. With the second one, if you don’t want to do self-repetition, it’s more difficult ... but I’m bored repeating myself, this is the exact opposite of creativity | |||
- Mark Bell [3] | ||||
Mark Bell, before the release of the Björk Post album in 1995, gave her an LFO demo cassette so that she could use what she liked in her album. Björk chose the track, which became her song “I Go Humble”. An instrumental version of this track is also on the Advance album, where it is called "Shove Piggy Shove" [4] .
Advance is the last album that Gez Varley participated in before leaving the band and doing solo work. Mark Bell, after leaving Varley, concentrated on working with Björk and Depeche Mode . The third LFO album, Sheath , already recorded without Varley, was released 8 years later, in 2003 [2] .
