Biography
Ivan Bocharnikov was born in May 1913 in the village of Gvazda (now the Buturlinovsky district of the Voronezh region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of a school in his village, and then a factory apprenticeship school in the village of Buturlinovka . He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm . In 1935 - 1937 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, served as the commander of the tower of the T-26 tank in the Urals Military District . After being demobilized, he worked as the head of the school department of the district committee of the Komsomol , then as an instructor in the party’s district committee, and as deputy director of the Klepovo machine-tractor station for political affairs. In 1940 he joined the CPSU (b) . In March 1941, he was re-drafted into the army by the Vorontsov District Military Commissariat of the Voronezh Region. Since July 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He participated in battles on the Western , Voronezh and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He was wounded twice during the fighting. He took part in the defense of Nevel and Velikiye Luki , the battle for Moscow , the Rzhev-Vyazemsky operation , the Battle of Kursk , the liberation of Ukraine, the battle for the Dnieper , the battles for Kiev . By November 1943, the Guard Lieutenant Ivan Bocharnikov commanded a tank company of the 21st Guards Tank Brigade of the 5th Guards Tank Corps of the 38th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. Distinguished himself during the Kiev operation [1] .
On November 11, 1943, Bocharnikov’s company, entering the rear of German troops for 20 kilometers, broke into the village of Salivonki, Vasilkovsky District, Kiev Region, Ukrainian SSR, and destroyed its garrison. In the battle, the company destroyed 9 guns, 30 vehicles, 50 wagons, 150 soldiers and officers of the enemy. An enemy shell hit the Bocharnikov’s tank, which demolished the tower. The explosion Bocharnikova tore off both legs and thrown out of the tank. He tried to shoot himself with a pistol , but was shot. He was buried in the village of Grebenki in the same region [1] .
Rewards
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 25, 1944, for senior guard’s courage and heroism in the battle for Kiev, senior lieutenant Ivan Bocharnikov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , medals " For Courage " and " For the Defense of Moscow ".
Memory
In honor of Bocharnikov, a street and a school were named in his native village [1] .
