During the battles for the city of Solechay , the Borshchik’s battery destroyed the enemy’s manpower, which contributed to the successful capture of the city by infantry units. Also, thanks to the actions of the battery, German troops could not destroy the bridge over the Muzha River. On August 6, 1944, a battery repelled 8 enemy counterattacks in the area of Bagachi, Mitava County , knocking out 3 and damaging 2 German tanks . On August 21, 1944, in a battle with superior enemy forces, almost all battery calculations failed. Borschik personally began to fire on the advancing tanks, knocking out 2 of them. When the heavy tank began to approach the Borshchik’s gun, he grabbed the anti-tank grenade in both hands and went to meet him. He was injured by a shell fragment, but continued to go to the tank. In the memoirs of contemporaries

During the battle on the defense section of the 77th Infantry Division, Major General A.P. Rodionov, the true heroism was shown by the soldiers of the battery of the 239th artillery regiment, commanded by senior lieutenant Ivan Vladimirovich Borshchik. His subordinates repelled five tank attacks. But one by one all the gunners died. Then the commander himself stood up to the gun and with the last shells knocked out two more tanks. The surviving wounded batteries with rifles and machine guns repelled all infantry attacks. But now, clearing the way for the infantry, the tanks moved again. Ivan Borshchik with anti-tank grenades in his hands moved across the tiger. The shard dug into the officer’s hand. He quickly lost strength. Taking both grenades with one hand, the battery commander rushed under the tank and saved his comrades from death.
I.V. Borshchik ... was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
