Biography

He began his career in 1963 after graduating from the Kuban Medical Institute. Of the Red Army, and in 1965, upon completion of clinical residency, received a medical specialty - a neurologist. In 1971 he defended his thesis at the Institute of Neurology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, where he worked as a researcher. From 1971 to 1980 - Assistant and associate professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases MISI them. N.A. Semashko. From 1980 to the present, he has been the head of the I Neurological Department for patients with cerebrovascular accidents at the Central Clinical Hospital with Clinic, UD of the President of the Russian Federation. From 1990 to the present, he has held the post of head of the Department of Neurology of FSBI “UNMTs” UD of the President of the Russian Federation, chief specialist in neurology of the GMU UD of the President of the Russian Federation. Member of the Presidium of the Board of the All-Russian Society of Neurologists.

At the Department of Neurology, he provides regular retraining of doctors at medical facilities of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, training of clinical residents, and scientific supervision of the work of graduate students and applicants. The research activity of V.I. Shmyrev is devoted to the problems of vascular and tumor pathology of the brain, differential diagnosis of neurological diseases, neurotransplantation of stem cells and antioxidant protection of the brain, rehabilitation in the field of angioneurology, vertebroneurology and neurogeriarthria. For developments in the field of antioxidant therapy, he became a laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for 2002 (No. 4861, 2003). He was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, a number of medals and public awards. Under his leadership, a new method for the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients was developed, based on the identification and correction of peripheral components of paresis using soft-tissue manual techniques. Currently, a number of studies are being conducted at the junction of neurology with radiation diagnostics, neurosurgery, cardiac and vascular surgery, pulmonology, rehabilitation, manual therapy, pediatrics and a number of other disciplines. V. I. Shmyrev is the author of more than 250 publications in Russian and foreign publications, as well as several monographs on various issues of neurology and more than 10 patents for inventions and utility models. Under his leadership, more than 30 dissertations were defended. V. I. Shmyrev is a member of the editorial boards of a number of medical journals.
