Juan Fernando López Aguilar ( Spanish: Juan Fernando López Aguilar ; born June 10, 1961 , Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ) - Spanish politician, member of the ISRP . Member of the European Parliament . In 2004-2007, he served as Minister of Justice of Spain in the Zapatero government.

Biography
Lopez Aguilar received his law degree from the University of Granada , and also studied political science and sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid and law at Boston University . At the University of Bologna, he received a degree in law. In 1993, he was appointed professor of constitutional law at the University of Las Palmas .
In 1983, Lopez Aguilar joined the Spanish Socialist Workers Party . In 1990-1993 he worked as parliamentary adviser to the Minister of Justice Enrique Mugiki and Thomas Cuadra-Salcedo . In 1993-1996, Lopez Aguilar headed the office of Minister Jeronimo Saavedra in the Ministry of Public Administration and Education. Since 1996, Lopez Aguilar has been a member of the lower house of the Spanish parliament . In 1999, he was the number one on the PSOE list in the regional elections in the Canary Islands. Since 2000, in the rank of secretary of the board of the ISRP, he was responsible for public freedom and the development of autonomous regions. From April 18, 2004 to February 12, 2007, Lopez Aguilar was part of the Zapatero government with the rank of Minister of Justice. In February 2007, Lopez Aguilar officially resigned as ministerial candidate to be the number one candidate from the PSOE in the regional elections in the Canary Islands on May 27, 2007. His party received 34.6% of the vote in these elections and formed the largest faction. Nevertheless, as a result of coalition negotiations with the help of the conservative People's Party, the post of chairman of the Canary Islands government was taken by Paulino Rivero Baute, representative of the Canary Coalition regionalist party.
On October 20, 2007, Lopez Aguilar was elected General Secretary of the Canary Islands Socialist Party , receiving 92.97% of the vote. In this position, he replaced Juan Carlos Aleman . Lopez Aguilar topped the ISRP list in the 2009 European Parliament elections , received the mandate of the European MP and headed the committee on civil liberties, justice and internal affairs.
In 2015, as a result of the scandal when the ex-wife accused the European Parliament of domestic violence, Lopez Aguilar’s membership in the PSI was suspended, and the European Parliament’s Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats expelled him from his membership.
