Biography

David Mayr was born on August 21, 1984 in the town of Vipiteno , Trentino-Alto Adige region . He began to actively go in for luge at the age of thirteen, in 2000 he was selected for the national team and made his debut at the Junior World Championships in Königssee, where he finished fourth. The following year, he repeated this achievement and rose to the second position in the overall standings of the youth World Cup.

He made his debut at the World Cup in the 2003/04 season, finished thirty-ninth at the Sigulda stage in Latvia, while he won the gold medal at the world championship among the youths. However, he became a full-fledged member of the national team only the following year; at the cup stages, he regularly ranked among the top 30, ranking thirty-two at the end of the season in the world ranking of the best lugers. The turning point in his career was the 2005/06 season, when Mayr made a sharp leap forward in terms of results, in particular, at the World Cup stage in American Lake Placid, he locked the top ten, rising overall in the eighteenth position. A year later, it was already the fifteenth, and in the 2007/08 season - the fourteenth.

Approximately the same way all his other performances were held at other major international competitions. In 2010, David Mayr qualified for the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and went to defend the honor of the country at the Whistler Olympic track, where he subsequently finished 17th. At the 2012 World Championships in German Altenberg ranked eighth in the men's singles category, and this is his best result in the adult world championships.
