Biography
Ivan Borodin was born in 1925 in the village of Burychki (now Kolpnyansky district of the Oryol region ) into a peasant family. Received secondary education. In 1943 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since 1944 - on the fronts of World War II. By January 1945, the Red Army guard Ivan Borodin was a machine gunner of the 7th Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Division of the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps of the 21st Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland and the forcing of the Oder [1] .
On January 24, 1945, during the battle for the city of Ehrenforst (now Sladenice , Poland), Borodin was the first in his unit to break into its outskirts and use a machine gun to ensure the advance of the platoon, destroying several enemy soldiers and officers. During the crossing of the Oder, Borodin was also the first to reach the western bank of the river and covered the platoon crossing with machine-gun fire. In battle, he destroyed 2 enemy machine guns with their calculations. During the fighting on the bridgehead north of the city of Ratibor (now Raciborz , Poland), Borodin destroyed about 50 enemy soldiers and officers. He was shell-shocked in the battle, but he did not leave the battlefield. April 25, 1945 he died in battle. He was buried in the southeastern outskirts of the village of Obermuschutz (10 kilometers southeast of the city of Riesa , Germany) [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, Red Army soldier Ivan Borodin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and World War II 2nd degree [1] .
