Pirita ( est. Pirita ) - a microdistrict in the Pirita district of the same name in Tallinn , Estonia . It was named after the monastery of St. Brigitte , which Estonians have also long called the monastery of Pirita ( Est. Pirita klooster ) [1] .

Territory and borders
Located on the shores of the Gulf of Tallinn . Area - 1.73 km 2 [2] . It borders on the microdistricts of Merivialia , Mähe , Kloostrimetza , Kose and Maaryamäe . The mouth of the Pirita River is located in the microdistrict.
The main streets are Merivialja tee, Randvere tee, Kloostrimetsa tee, Pirita tee, Rummu tee [3] .

History
In the XV century, simultaneously with the construction of the monastery of St. Brigitte, a village appeared nearby, according to written sources of 1407, which was called Marienthal . Before the Second World War, the vicinity of the monastery was not part of Tallinn, and officially this area was called the village of Pirita . There were 3 residential buildings, and all of them were built in 1902 . Compact buildings in the vicinity of the former monastery began to arise from 1908 . [one]
Infrastructure and Attractions
The microdistrict is the central part of the Pirita district, where the district government is located, the Sailing Center , erected for the 1980 Summer Olympic Games and in 1999 entered into the State Register of Cultural Monuments of Estonia [4] , the Pirita Sports Complex (velodrome), the ruins of St. Brigitte Monastery ( entered in the State Register of Cultural Monuments of Estonia [5] ), as well as shops, hotels and the famous sea beach.
In the microdistrict, bus routes number 1A, 6, 8, 34A, 38, 49 [6] .
The main buildings of the microdistrict are individual residential buildings. In the 2000s , the construction of small houses began in the microdistrict. The surroundings of the Sailing Center [7] became a particularly popular and prestigious place for new development. Despite the protests of local residents [8] [9] , apartment building in the microdistrict continues, new compact residential complexes are given sonorous names: “Sailing Residence” ( Est. Purje Residents , between Regati and Purye Streets), “Garden Town Masti” ( est Aedlinnak Masti , on Masti Street) [10] [11] [12] [13] . At the end of the 2000s, a luxury apartment complex called “Pirita Beach Apartments & SPA” [14] was also rebuilt in the famous Pirita beachfront building.
