(51829) Williamakkul ( eng. Williemccool ) is a main-belt asteroid that was discovered on July 21, 2001 as part of the NEAT program to search for near-earth asteroids in the Palomar Observatory , USA, and is named after the American astronaut William McCool who died on February 1, 2003 as a result the crash of the shuttle Columbia .

Asteroid Williammakkul is one of seven asteroids discovered at the Palomar Observatory in mid-July 2003, named in memory of the dead astronauts "Colombia" [2] .
