The modern name has been known since 1797. It is connected with the location of artillery batteries here on the crown of the Peter and Paul Fortress . Since 1869, the island has housed the Military History Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Signal Corps . The area of the island is about 12 hectares.
Island Bridges
At the beginning of the 19th century, two bridges were thrown over the Kronverksky Canal - Western and Eastern Artillery . The Western Artillery Bridge at the end of the 19th century was dismantled and restored only in 1978 during the construction of the Kronverkskaya Embankment.
