General Information

Mona is one of the two daughters of Wolfgang and Hannelore Barthel. My father now works as a doctor, and previously was involved in athletics and won the European Junior Championship in shot put, his mother once worked as a teacher, and now accompanies her daughter in competitions. Mona's elder sister, Zunna Kristina, also tried herself on a professional tour [3] , but she ended up playing early due to a shoulder injury.

Mona started playing tennis at the age of three, following her sister. Strengths in the German game is a powerful serve, successful tactical actions and good movement. Favorite cover - hard.

Sports career

Bartel won her first victory in tournaments from the ITF cycle in January 2010 at a tournament with a minimum prize pool of $ 10,000. In January 2012, Bartel won her debut title on the WTA tour. At the tournament in Hobart, she began her performance with qualifications, and then was able to go through the grid to the finals. In the decisive match, the German beat the first seeded at the tournament Janina Wikmeier with a score of 6-1, 6-2. This victory allowed her to get into the Top 50 of the world ranking. At the debut Australian Open, Mona was able to enter the third round, where her promotion was stopped by Victoria Azarenka . 2015-17.

In 2017, the German woman began to return to her previous results. At the Australian Open, where due to the low rating she had to make her way through the qualification, she first entered the fourth round of the Grand Slam. In late July, Mona Barthel went to a tournament in Prague (Czech Republic) where she was able to get to the quarterfinals, where she lost to Poland tennis player Iga Swiatek with a score of 2: 0 (6: 2 6: 3). At the US Open (USA), Mona Barthel lost in the first round to Czech tennis player Marketet Vondrusova with a score of 2: 0 (6: 1 6: 4)

2019 season

In March, at a tournament in Indian Wells (USA) she reached the 1/8 finals, where she lost to American Venus Williams in two sets.

In April 2019, Bartel and compatriot Anna-Lena Fridzam took part in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix , where they reached the final and beat a pair of tennis players Lucia Shafarzhova from the Czech Republic and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia. The fate of the title was decided at the champion tiebreak, where the Germans were stronger with a score of 10-6.
