History
Appearance
The initiative to publish the Chernihiv Leaflet came from a circle of writers published in the Chernigov Provincial Gazette, and where Leonid Glebov, a professor at the Chernigov gymnasium, took the most active part. The petition for the establishment of the newspaper was submitted to the censorship committee on March 12, 1861, with the signature of the submitter: "the younger teacher of the Chernigov Provincial Grammar School Glebov." It was planned to organize five sections in the newspaper to be established: literary, news, general useful information (agriculture and household, industry, trade, medicine, etc.), bibliographies, and announcements. The petition was granted by the governor of Chernigov, Prince Golitsyn. The headquarters of censorship in St. Petersburg also approved the creation of a newspaper. The Kiev censorship committee informed the principal of the Chernihiv region about the need to inform the teacher Glebov about the permit, and the teacher Petropavlovsky ordered to observe the content of the approved program. The first issue of the newspaper was published on July 12, 1861 [1]
The output of the Chernigov Leaf was noted in the literary publication Osnova. In the first year of publication, the leaflet was published regularly until September, and then financial difficulties for publishers began. In the second year of publication, Glebov intended to close the newspaper, but at that time the number of subscribers increased, and from May 1863 he again tried to revive the publication [2] . According to Glebov, the newspaper’s subscribers were not only residents of the Chernihiv province , but also residents of the Caucasus, Simbirsk , Kherson , St. Petersburg , Crimea , Poland and other places [3] .
In total, in 1861 there were 11 issues, in 1862 - 36, and in 1863 - 16 [3] .
The main work in the publication was performed by Glebov himself, who was at the same time an editor, issuing, appending and proofreader. In addition to him, Panteleimon Kulish , Kuzmenko, Verbitsky (Belokopytenko), Nomis, Andrushchenko and others worked in the editorial office. But in the published materials, a significant part belongs to Glebov himself [3] .
Close
According to the decisions of the Valuev Circular of July 18, 1863, according to which a significant part of publications in the Ukrainian language (in the then terminology - in Little Russian or Little Russian dialect ) was suspended, the Chernihiv Leaflet was no longer entitled to publish materials in Ukrainian. By the decree of the Chernihiv governor on August 23, 1863, publication was discontinued, and Glebov owed 144 rubles to the provincial printing house, which he then returned for a long time. The last issue was published on September 6, 1863 , after which the newspaper was closed [3] .
