150th anniversary of the birth of A.P. Chekhov

The 150th anniversary of the birth of A.P. Chekhov is a series of commemorative coins of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of a Russian writer.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov ( January 17 (29), 1860 , Taganrog , Ekaterinoslav province (now Rostov Region ) - July 2 (15), 1904 , Badenweiler [1] ) - an outstanding Russian writer , playwright , and a doctor by profession. Honorary Academician of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in the category of Fine Literature ( 1900 - 1902 ). He is a recognized classic of world literature. His plays, especially The Cherry Orchard , have been staged in many theaters around the world for over a hundred years. One of the most famous world playwrights.

For 26 years of creativity Chekhov has created about 900 different works (short humorous stories, serious stories, plays), many of which have become classics of world literature. Particular attention was paid to themselves by “ Steppe ”, “ Boring Story ”, “ Duel ”, “ Chamber No. 6 ”, “ The Story of an Unknown Person ”, “ Men ” ( 1897 ), “ A Man in a Case ” ( 1898 ), “ In a Gully ” , " Children ", " Drama on the hunt "; from the plays: “ Ivanov ”, “The Seagull ”, “ Uncle Vanya ”, “ Three Sisters ”, “The Cherry Orchard ”.

There are four coins in this series. All of them relate to commemorative coins of precious metals, in this case - of silver and gold. All coins were minted in December 2009, but the coins were put into circulation only in 2010 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of N.V. Gogol.

  • Coin made of silver 925 with a face value of 3 rubles with a circulation of 5,000 pieces.
  • Coin from silver 925 with a face value of 100 rubles with a circulation of 500 pieces.
  • Coin made of 999 gold with a nominal value of 50 rubles and a circulation of 1,500 pieces.
  • Coin made of 999 gold with a face value of 200 rubles and a circulation of 500 pieces.
