“Take a second look” ( Eng. Second Glance ) is the tenth novel by American writer Jody Pickolt , published in 2003 . In this work, Pickolt addressed the theme of the Vermont eugenic project of the 1930s [1] .

Content
Story
The novel takes place in the tiny city of Comtosuke, located in Vermont . Representatives of the Abenaki nationality live in it, instead of whose territory they want to erect a shopping center . However, if the Abenaki are able to prove that their ancestors are buried here, construction will be stopped.
Ghost hunter Ross Wakeman arrives in town. A few years ago, his bride crashed in a car accident , after which Wakeman made several attempts to commit suicide , but survived. After that, he began to hunt for ghosts, hoping one day to meet the spirit of a deceased lover. By coincidence, Wacman Shelby’s sister lives in Comtosuk. Her son Ethan suffers from xeroderma , which makes him intolerant of ultraviolet radiation .
With the help of a local detective and a ghost, Leah Beaumont, Wakeman manages to uncover the secret of the murder committed here many decades ago. The case materials confirm that the Indian is indeed buried in the city, and construction is being stopped.

- John Delacour is a hundred-year-old abenaki accused of assassinating Cecilia.
