Marina Poplavskaya (born September 12, 1977 ) is an opera singer ( soprano ), soloist of Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera .

Biography
Marina Poplavskaya was born in Moscow on September 12, 1977. She studied at a music school in the harp class. At the age of 9 years old, independently, without demand from her parents, she was selected for the Bolshoi Theater Children's Choir. She received her singing education at the M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov State Music and Pedagogical Institute in the class of Professor Pyotr Pavlovich Tarasov, and in final year with Ivan Platonovich Shapar [1] .
- 1996 - the beginning of an opera career as a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theater [2] .
- 1997 - Laureate of the All-Russian Vocal Competition "Bella Voce" (1st prize).
- 1999 - Laureate of the International Competition for Young Opera Singers Elena Obraztsova in St. Petersburg (2nd Prize).
- 2000 - diploma winner at the Queen Elizabeth International Opera Singers Competition in Brussels ( Belgium ).
- 2002 - soloist of the Moscow Musical Theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko .
- 2003 - debut at the Bolshoi Theater as an intern in the role of Ann in I. Stravinsky ’s opera “ The Adventures of the Hang ”.
- 2004 - soloist of the Bolshoi Theater.
- 2004 - Grand Prix of the International competition of performers of the Russian romance " Romansiada " [3] .
- 2004-2005 - participation in the performances of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater .
- 2005 - Grand Prix of the Maria Callas International Opera Singers Competition in Athens ( Greece ).
- 2005 - the beginning of work as a soloist of the Royal Theater of Covent Garden [4] .
- 2007 - debut at the Metropolitan Opera in the part of Natasha’s opera “War and Peace” by Sergei Prokofiev [5] .
Interesting Facts
- Marina Poplavskaya reports on her knowledge of foreign languages: “I speak English and Italian, I have less practice in French, I have not used German for a long time, although I can also read and understand these languages” [1] .
- In late spring 2011, M. Poplavskaya took part in the tour of the Metropolitan Opera in Japan . She filled a vacancy that unexpectedly arose due to the refusal of a number of leading soloists, and in particular, Anna Netrebko , to visit radiation- hazardous areas formed after the Fukushima accident [6] .
