Botanical description
Representatives of the family are trees with simple opposite leaves without stipules . The flowers are collected in cymotic inflorescence .
Area
They are found in the tropical and subtropical zones, representatives of the genus Ficalhoa in East Africa , and Sladenia in Thailand , Burma and Yunnan .
Taxonomy and systematic position
The composition of the family members is different in different systems. In some of them, the only genus Sladenia belongs to the sweetheart, others refer this genus to the tea , actinidium , dilile or Ternstroemiaceae family. Finally, third, in addition to Sladenia , Ficalhoa and sometimes Pentaphylax are also referred to sweets. The morphological studies of the embryo Sladenia have shown that this genus has unique features and deserves isolation in a separate family. However, this plant is poorly studied, and the first phylogenetic studies caused very contradictory indications of its taxonomic position.
According to the information of The Plant List database (2013), the family includes 2 genera [3] :
- Ficalhoa hiern
- Sladenia kurz
