Balho [1] is a small town in the west of Djibouti , in the Tajura region. The administrative center of the same district. The city is located along the highway number 11, at a distance of approximately 5 kilometers from the border with Ethiopia , at an altitude of 238 meters above sea level [2] .

History
In 1991, the three opposition groups of the Afar ethnic group united in Balho on the Front for the restoration of unity and democracy ( fr. Front pour la Restoration de l'Unité et de la Démocratie, FRUD ), which opposed the central government of Djibouti during the civil war of 1991–1994 [3] . In 1993, Balho was occupied by government forces [4] .
Attractions
Rock paintings were discovered in the surrounding mountains, which were later used in the design of postage stamps [5] .
