The administrative center of the area is High Rock , a relatively small town. It is located about 64 km east of the city of Freeport and 32 km from the easternmost settlement - McLeans Town . Other communities in East Bahamas include Rocky Creek , Pelican Point , Gambier Point and Sweeting Cay .
For many years, the U.S. Air Force has operated a missile tracking radar around High Rock, which has been primarily involved in tracking all launches from Cape Canaveral (Florida) and NASA's manned spacecraft. The station is currently being used as the production base for the Gold Rock Creek Enterprises, a Bahamian film studio, where Films of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End were filmed. The Bahamas Film Studios ( Bahamas Film Studios ) has one of the largest open-air filming locations in the world, along with production and support facilities such as props, dressing rooms and other indoor facilities. The studio is still under construction, over time there will appear modern sound film-making pavilions, editing and an international practical film school.
