Konstantin Iakinfovich Bylinsky (July 29 [August 10], 1894, the village of Ozdamichi , Mozyr uezd , Minsk province - September 16, 1960, Moscow ) - Soviet linguist, doctor of philological sciences, professor, head of the Russian language stylistics department of the journalism faculty of Moscow State University (1952-1960) [1] . Together with Dietmar Elyashevich Rosenthal is considered the founder of the direction of practical stylistics .

Biography, study, family
Konstantin Iakinfovich Bylinsky was born on August 10, 1894 in the village of Ozdamichi of the Mozyr district of the Minsk province in the family of the priest of the local Holy Trinity Church of Bylinsky Iakinf Petrovich and Perepechina Alexandra Andreyevna (1873 - died at the beginning of the XX century ) [2] .
He graduated with honors from the Mozyr Gymnasium (study period: 1903-1912), where his father was a law teacher.
In 1912-1913 he studied in the first year of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Imperial University of Warsaw . During a break in his studies (in the summer of 1913) he transferred to the second year of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Imperial Moscow University , which he brilliantly graduated in 1916.
Wife - (Sinebryukhova) Bylinskaya Evgenia Alexandrovna (1894-1991). The only child in the family - Konstantin Konstantinovich Bylinsky, born in 1923, died in the war at the age of 19, having not had time to start a family.
Konstantin Iakinfovich Bylinsky died on September 16, 1960 after a serious illness, in Moscow. He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery .
Scientific and educational activities
The scientific and pedagogical activity of K. I. Bylinsky began in 1916, when he, after graduating from the historical and philological faculty of Moscow University, became a teacher of Russian language and literature at the Moscow Archaeological Institute.
After the October Revolution, K. I. Bylinsky has been teaching for many years at the evening working university, at the Prechistensky working courses, at the labor department at the 2nd Moscow State University.
Since 1931, K. I. Bylinsky in leadership work in universities. He headed the departments of the Russian language and literature at the All-Union Planning Academy, at the Central Newspaper Courses at the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks.
In 1941, the Faculty of Publishing and Publishing was established at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute , where the training of editors for book publishers in the specialty "Journalism" began. One of the organizers of the faculty of editing was K. I. Bylinsky, who became the first dean of the faculty and the head of his only department - the department of editing [3] .
During the Great Patriotic War, K. I. Bylinsky edited Sovinformburo reports, which subsequently amounted to 9 volumes [4] .
Professor K. I. Bylinsky led the scientific and academic work of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute for almost ten years. In 1952, the editorial and publishing department of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute was combined with the journalism department of the philological faculty of Moscow State University , and as a result, the journalism faculty of Moscow State University appeared [5] . Since 1952, Bylinsky - head of the department of stylistics of the Russian language of the faculty of journalism at Moscow State University [1] .
Bylinsky Konstantin Iakinfovich had a significant impact on the development of the theory and practice of editing as a scientific and educational discipline. I stood at the origins of modern editing, as evidenced by books created by him both independently and in collaboration with D. E. Rosenthal , and a whole scientific school. For the first time, a university lecture course in literary editing was delivered at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University by Professor K. I. Bylinsky in 1952.
Bylinsky divided the editorial into several types according to the degree and nature of the changes in the text:
- proofreading (correction of technical errors in the preparation of reprints without processing, as well as official and documentary materials);
- abbreviation (corrections in order to get a certain number of characters of the text);
- processing (ideological-semantic, factual, compositional, logical, stylistic corrections, but without radical transformations of the text);
- alteration (radical changes in the author’s text, which serves only as the basis for the final text of the publication) [6] .
