Biography

Born in the family of the advisory adviser Philip Jung. In 1866-1872 he studied at the school of Mustershule. In 1872-1879 he studied at the Frankfurt city gymnasium. After studying in Leipzig , Freiburg , Berlin and Marburg, Jung served in Frankfurt.

In 1884-1886 he worked on the publication of documents of the Reichstag under the direction of the historical commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In 1883, he became a member of the Freies Deutsches Hochstift, and in 1884 he was appointed there as a librarian and clerk. In 1888, he headed the Frankfurt City Archives. In this position, he worked for 34 years until his death.

In 1883, he became a member of the Frankfurt Association of History and Archeology. From 1883 to 1913 he was the chairman of this association, and from 1888 he was in charge of its archive and library. He was the editor of various publications of the association. He was also one of the founders of the Society for the History Museum and the Historical Commission of Frankfurt am Main.

Jung was an employee of several legal publications, and also worked for the newspapers Frankfurter Zeitung , Frankfurter Nachrichten and Didaskalia.

In honor of Rudolf Jung, Jungstrasse was named in the Bockenheim district of Frankfurt. Jung’s grave is in the Frankfurt main cemetery.

  • “Goethes Briefwechsel mit Antonie Brentano, 1814 - 1821 ” ( Weimar , 1896 );
  • "Das historische Archiv der Stadt Frankfurt am Main" ( Frankfurt , 1896 ).

Together with Karl Wolf, Jung published Die Baudenkmäler in Frankfurt am Main (ib., 1896 - 1898 ).
