Biography

He started boxing with the honored coach of Ukraine Boris Andreev , continued under the guidance of the honored coach of the USSR and Ukraine Mikhail Zavyalov . [1] From 1961 to 1973 he played for the Zhdanovsky DSO Avangard, from 1973 to 1982 for CSKA .

He played in the 2nd middle weight, where at that time a large number of strong fighters were concentrated - such as Vyacheslav Lemeshev , Rufat Riskiev , Juozas Juotsevichus . In this regard, in the interests of the team in the international arena moved to other categories.

In 1973, he won the European Championship in the 1st middle weight, up to 71 kg, and in 1975, light heavyweight, up to 81 kg. At the preliminary stage at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , he defeated the Canadian Roger Fortin , but then lost to the future winner of the tournament, Leon Spinks from the USA , who later became famous in the professional ring for his victory in February 1978 over Mohammed Ali (Cassius Clay).

He was distinguished by good endurance and a high rate of combat, skillfully used defensive actions and actively counterattacked himself.

He graduated from the Institute of Physical Culture . He worked as a coach of the national team of Ukraine .

In 1989, he began to train professional boxers . In 1993, he was invited to work under a contract with the Olympic national team of Yugoslavia .

Since 1995, he trained boxers-professionals of the Kiev professional boxing and kickboxing association TIKO.

The last 20 years he worked in the sports society "Garth". In the last years of life, the club society on the street. Comintern 4, in which he was engaged in coaching, became an object of interest on the part of the notorious D. A. Korchinsky , who turned to Klimanov directly with a proposal to organize something like “sponsored” on the basis of “Garth” (which was then financially difficult) a training center for sports and combat training of members of his organization , to which Klimanov in a rather harsh manner explained to him that this would not happen and that the club would remain out of politics.

Died of a stroke . He was buried in Kiev at the Sovsky cemetery .
