Whorled Koreopsis ( Latin: Coreopsis verticillata ) is a species of herbaceous plants of the genus Koreopsis ( Coreopsis ) of the Asteraceae family. Cultivars of this species are widely used in floriculture.

Coreopsis is whorled - a perennial herbaceous plant 60 to 90 cm high. The stalk is stiff, branched. [2] The plant grows in clusters, reaching a width of about 60 cm or more due to propagation by the rhizome . [3]

The flowers are yellow in color, from 3 to 5 cm in diameter. It blooms from mid-summer to autumn.

Habitat and habitat

The plant grows in the eastern United States east of the Mississippi . It occurs, as a rule, in dry, light forests, open pine forests, prefers sunny places. Unpretentious, resistant to drought, poor soil and heat. [2] [4]

Cultivation

Coreopsis is whorled and its cultivars are unpretentious and do not require special care. It is characterized by a long flowering period and rarely suffers from pests or is affected by diseases. Flowers are attractive for butterflies and are not eaten by deer. [5] This coreopsis is grown in hanging baskets and containers, providing good drainage, as well as a decorative garden fence. [6]

The most famous varieties:

  • “Large-flowered” ( Grandiflora ) is a high grade with slightly larger flowers. The variety received the AGM Award from the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain (2003). [7]
  • " Moonbeam " ( Moonbeam ) - a variety with pale sulfur-yellow flowers, low. In 1992, the Perennial Plant Association named it the perennial of the year, became especially popular after that. [2] [8]
  • "Zagreb" ( Zagreb ) - a low grade with bright yellow flowers. received the AGM award from the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain in 2001. [9]
