South Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement

In the early 1990s, under the name "South Ethiopian Popular Democratic Front", the party was founded with the assistance of the RDFEN as its partner in the Region of Peoples and Peoples of the South . The first members of the front were prisoners of war belonging to various nationalities of southern Ethiopia ^[1] . In 2002, the word “front” was replaced with “movement” in the name of the party ^[2] . In August 2005, in a regional election, the party won 271 out of 348 seats in the Region of the Peoples of the South. In the elections to the national parliament in the same year, the party won 92 out of 123 seats ^[3] . Among the deputies then there were 64 men and 28 women ^[4] . In December 2007, the party said it had increased the number of its members to more than a million people and 790,000 of them were nominated for various elections and positions ^[5] . In 2008, she received 10 additional seats in the regional parliament ^[6] .
