History
Born April 28, 1941 in Kiev . Childhood Irina Zhilenko passed in Cherkasy . After the war with her parents, she returned to Kiev again. After graduation, she entered the evening department of philology of KSU named after T. G. Shevchenko , worked as a teacher in a kindergarten. University graduate of 1964 . For several years she worked in the editorial offices of the newspapers Molod Ukrainy, Literaturna Ukraina, and the magazine Ranok (Morning). Wife of Ukrainian prose writer Vladimir Drozd .
Creativity
She began to write poetry at an early age. At the beginning of her work she was influenced by Russian Symbolists .
A significant place in the poet's work is given to the image of a woman and her nature. A woman’s place in the microcosm of Irina Zhilenko’s poetry is a place of love, a mother, an assistant, the creator of a network of relationships, on which she, in turn, relies, as well as poets, aesthetes. The lyrical heroine of poetry I. Zhilenko largely reflects the traditional Ukrainian stereotype of femininity , albeit in a modified form

I. Zhilenko - author of a number of children's works:

In 2011, the publishing house of Smoloskip (Fakel) published a book of memoirs by Irina Zhilenko “Homo Feriens” (Russian. People celebrating ), containing many episodes from the history of the Ukrainian “sixties” - the Ukrainian movement of national and cultural resistance in the USSR. Prior to this, the poetess's memoirs were published in the literary and public journal Suchasnist (Modernity) in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The works of I. Zhilenko were published in many languages, including Russian. So, in 1990, the publishing house "Children's Literature" published a fairy tale by Irina Zhilenko, "Two times equals a dandelion" translated by I. Medvedeva, which is a contamination of memories of post-war childhood with book-yard mythology.
