Systematics
The name of the family Dendrerpetontidae, given by Antonin Fritsch in 1885, was corrected by Robert Carroll in 1967 according to the rules of the ICZN to Dendrerpetonidae [2] .
According to the Fossilworks website, as of May 2017, the family includes 2 extinct genera [1] :
- Genus Dendrerpeton Owen, 1853 [ syn. Erpetocephalus Huxley, 1867 ] (4 species)
- Genus Dendrysekos Steen, 1934 (1 species)
Another 2 genera that previously belonged to the family were transferred:
- The genus Balanerpeton Milner et Sequeira, 1994 - in the treasure Eutemnospondyli , that is, became the sister taxon of the Dendrerpetonidae family [3] .
- Genus Eugyrinus Watson, 1921 - in the treasure of Dvinosauria , also included in Eutemnospondyli [4] .
