Biography
Born in the family of the Greek ethnographer Cosmas Politis. He studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens [1] , then studied law in Germany. After returning to his homeland, he was an educated theater critic in the theater, which he himself managed, and simultaneously wrote poetry, as well as scripts for theatrical productions. Photos Politis was an active champion of the revolution in Greek theatrical art, where the acting performance was dominated by pompous declamation and artificial pathos.
In 1919, at the age of 29, he adapted the “King Oedipus” Aeschylus , and Politis gave the main role in his play to Emilia Veakis . In 1932, he became the first director of the National Theater of Greece, and since then has addressed outstanding names in the theater community and famous people of that time. As for the repertoire, Politis was an adherent of the classics, of which he remained the guardian all his life. The following directors of the National Theater Ronitiers and Minotis continued this tradition.
In recognition of the talent and memory of the great Greek filmmaker, the Fotos Politis Award was founded, which is awarded to prominent Greek filmmakers.
